Looking North toward Mill Street (Band Stand) Looking West along Main Street Looking South from Mill Street down Moffat (Band Stand on Left)

This virtual museum was developed to preserve historical information that otherwise would have been damaged through frequent handling. It provides free worldwide access to personal histories and photographs, and a place for genealogists to discover the social history of early Canadian townsfolk.

About Morewood

Morewood is a small village located south of Canada's capital. Some early citizens took a great interest in capturing their schoolyears in photographs and short memoirs and they provide a rich visual history of the town of Morewood in its infancy. Surprisingly, Morewood had far more industries in those early years than it does today.

All the photographic images and historical anecdotes have been generously donated to the development of this site in the hope that it will spark an interest in new and young citizens of Morewood. Special thanks to GlenMacGregor and Doug Hunter for providing a wealth of material that serves as the foundation of this virtual museum.

This site will ALWAYS be under construction since new material is added as it becomes available and placed in the appropriate category.

Interested in genealogy? Look through the many photographs and names of Morewood Townsfolk. There are numerous photographs that need identification as well (Search UNKNOWN on townsfolk page).

NOT FROM MOREWOOD?

You might be surprised to find links to your family that actually passed through this small town. A Mayor of Calgary, and a fire-chief and politician in Vancouver are only a couple of examples of Morewood's influence on larger cities and proof that distant families may discover their roots in this small town in Ontario.

There would have been little material to start this site if not for a Doctor in New York. The late Dr. James Arnot MacGregor was indirectly the first to provide material for this site.
His incredible effort at taking snapshots from before the turn of the 20th century through the 1930's in numerous small towns where he went to school, taught, administered as principal, joined the military during WWI, and worked at a mission in B.C. - will aid in the development of pages for the towns or cities of: Sparta, Ontario; Teulon, Manitoba; Ottawa, Ontario; Nakusp, B.C.; Kingston, Ontario; and Petawawa, Ontario.

Canada's National Anthem

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!

Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits,

Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Learn the words,
Sing them proudly
