The Doctors

After the death of MR. Peter BOLTON his home was rented to a number of occupants, one of which was Doctor David KIRK. Like other general practitioners of the period, he also extracted teeth.

Arnot MACGREGOR wrote:

“He pulled my first tooth. I felt very brave that day when I went to his office alone, but on arriving at the front door, was unable to reach the door bell and attract any attention. I have no idea why I did not knock on the door, but Uncle Robert FRASER happened to be passing by, and seeing my predicament came to my rescue. He remained with me until the great ordeal was over.”

Dr. Ford, another town doctor, is pictured fourth from the left in the backrow in this Photograph taken in 1890.
